Let’s face it: an online store without targeted traffic is negative money in the bank. One of the leading ways to drive traffic to your ecommerce site is by using Google AdWords. The trick to driving successful traffic, however, is ensuring that it is targeted. Targeted traffic means you are driving those people to your site who are more inclined to buy, which means a much bigger chance of reaching the ultimate goal: sales conversions.
There is no magic formula for content marketing success, despite what some would have you believe. For this reason, vary the length and format of your content to make it as appealing as possible to different kinds of readers. Intersperse shorter, news-based blog posts with long-form content as well as video, infographics and data-driven pieces for maximum impact.
AdWords advertisers should be happy to hear that the Google Display Network has, by far, the largest reach of any display network in the world. 90% of global internet users are reached by GDN, including 94% of all US internet users – 64% of which are reached every day – and 89% of US smartphone users. The Google Display network is your fast track to show your ad on 120 of the top 200 trafficked websites, including the #1 video platform, YouTube; the #1 blog platform, Blogger; the #1 email service, Gmail; and reach to 50 billion apps downloaded via Google Play. In total, the Google Display Network serves 2+ trillion ad impressions each month to 2.5 billion internet users across 2+ million websites.
We own multiple websites and have customers that have only purchased from one of them. We started sending out postcards 30 days after customers place orders with any of our websites. These postcards thank them for their purchase and display our other websites that we have as well. It’s actually converted into new sales for us on those other websites that our customers didn’t even know about. And the nice thing is that it is all done through an app and is totally automated and each send is less than $1.00. You really can’t beat that for the extra exposure.
On the other hand, if you’re resourceful enough, you can compile some great keywords without paying for anything at all. You might have to deal with advertising in this category but that’s normal and worth it if you are targeting lots of visitors. Try to keep your mobile audience in mind when researching too as well as with your social media network marketing.
If you’re new to AdWords, or you’re fulfilling your New Year’s resolutions to finally get a handle on your AdWords account, one of your first questions will be deciding how to leverage the search and display networks. While the Search network can be a great way to catch customers who are actively searching for your product or service, it can be difficult for new and niche businesses to reach people who aren’t already familiar with their product and may not be actively searching for them on Google. For advertisers looking to generate that initial interest in their product, display advertising is a great way to get in front of the most prospective customers at minimal cost.
Sure, Facebook has its ups and downs when it comes to finding targeted traffic – especially in the B2B realm. But there is a flip side to this: People are willing to share content freely and to engage with total strangers. Rather than jumping right in with your company’s Facebook Page, you can join relevant FB Groups and start sharing valuable content.
People love to learn, and webinars are an excellent way to impart your wisdom to your eagerly waiting audience. Combined with an effective social promotion campaign, webinars are a great way to increase traffic to your website. Send out an email a week or so ahead of time, as well as a “last chance to register” reminder the day before the webinar. Make sure to archive the presentation for later viewing, and promote your webinars widely through social media. If you're wondering how to do a webinar, click the link for some tips.
Finally, there’s the source of the traffic you will get to consider. It’s undeniable that some sellers do resort to bots, but they are getting easier to identify by the day. Most legitimate traffic sellers will allow customers to choose where their traffic is coming from based on geography and quality. To buy traffic that converts, you’ll need to keep this in mind.
Brian, great post as always! Question: Do you consider authority sites (industry portals) a form of “influencer marketing?” e.g. guest blogging, etc? In some niches there are not so many individuals who are influencers (outside of journalists) but there are sites that those in the industry respect. I am in the digital video space and for me one site is actually a magazine that is building a very strong digital presence. Thanks, keep up the good work!
In Market Audiences: In market audience targeting shows your ad to users whose search and internet browsing behavior indicates that they may be “in market” for a certain product or service. For example, a user whom starts repeatedly searching for “Temp Jobs” and starts visiting related postings on Monster.com could be identified as “in market” for a temporary or seasonal job. In market audience targeting works best for products or services that have longer buying and researching cycles.
With Google Ads, the focus is on getting users to your website, but that's only half the battle: Google Analytics fills the gap by providing insight into what users do once they arrive. When using both together, you can track things like which ads lead to the most clicks and conversions, so you can optimize your campaigns to focus on your best-performing ads.

To track website traffic you need analytics software. That anonymously logs every visitor to your site and keeps track of their actions. One of the most popular analytics apps is Google Analytics. It’s free, but there can be a learning curve in getting it set up correctly. If you don’t add your tracking code the right way, then you won’t be able to track your traffic. Consider getting an analytics expert to help you create the right setup for your website.
